Sandra Backlund works like a sculptor, weaving the mesh fabrics for her designs by hand. One of her dresses is made with origami, an angular departure from her braided curves. It is hard not to be reminded of a huge chignon or the tracery of a straw mat when viewing the designer's dresses and headdresses.
