Everything inspires me. My sources of inspiration are limitless. In fact, if you think about it, I think that inspiration comes from within us. Because you can be moved by anything. By an object, by a movement, by a town, by landscapes... but what inspires us is ourselves. The state of mind or the situation we are in makes us see things differently.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION OF BEAUTY IN GENERAL ?
Beauty is a moral, environmental, powerful, and truly venerable thing. A beautiful thing is so powerful, it's like nothing else exists around it. In mythology too, we can see that beauty is a beatitude for mankind.
THE FUNDAMENTAL VALUES OF THE "SHU UEMURA" BRAND ARE NATURE AND SCIENCE. HOW CAN YOU MERGE SCIENCE AND NATURE ?
I have always been interested in learning from people who live close to nature, about nature in general and its benefits. I have carried out much research myself to discover the beneficial ingredients for our products. But when we want to find out why a natural ingredient is effective, we must use scientific methods. Science reinforces and consolidates nature. Nature is essential, but in order to understand it better, conserve it or enrich it, science is crucial. Merging means mixing two elements to create a new element. By merging science and nature, you can create something new, something richer.
AFTER A FUL CAREER IN MAKE-UP, HOW DO YOU SEE THE LINK BETWEEN MAKE-UP AND HAIR ?
It all fits together. I can't imagine considering them as two separate things. Hairstyling enhances the face and vice versa. Hairstyling and make-up have a reciprocal effect. They collaborate, resonate with each other to create beauty.
WHAT RELATIONSHIP DO YOU HAVE WITH HAIR STYLISTS ?
I think the hairdresser is the most important person to me. I might create a beautiful face, but if the hairdresser makes beautiful hair, the two things combine to add even more beauty. A good hairdresser emphasizes beauty. So if we feel that we want to make something even more beautiful, we start thinking together and working as a team together. So the hairdresser is my most important partner.
